Sorry, but Homeschooling IS Political
And if you say it’s not, you’re probably not paying attention... or worse, avoiding a calling.
“Homeschooling isn’t political,” said someone recently, with an air of naïve optimism—and a dash of denial.
Oh really?
If you’ve dared to pull your kids out of a government-funded institution that routinely teaches boys they might be girls, normalizes porn in health class, promotes Marxism in the name of “equity,” and disciplines your child for saying he instead of they—you’ve already made a political statement. Whether you intended to or not.
Homeschooling IS political because education itself IS political. It always has been.
The Industrial-Sized Elephant in the Room
Let’s not pretend the public school system was a gift from the angels, shall we? The modern education system was born out of the Industrial Revolution. Think about that: schools were modeled after factories. Bells, rows, identical products (students), authority worship, and compliance. Mass production, but for children.
This wasn’t some neutral, harmless development. This was intentional social engineering. John Dewey, one of the fathers of modern education (and an avowed socialist and atheist), didn’t hide his goals. He wanted schools to shape ‘society’, not just teach reading. And not a biblical society, mind you—but a secular, collectivist one. That’s a monumental point. The goal was to remake the moral compass of the next generation... one worksheet at a time.
So no, pulling your child out of that system isn’t just a lifestyle choice. It’s a ‘revolution’. And revolutions are political.
“Render Unto Caesar”... or Not?
As Christians, we love quoting Romans 13. But let’s be honest: Caesar wasn’t trying to tell people how to raise their kids. Today, however, the government absolutely is. From compulsory attendance laws to mandated curriculum to threats against parental rights (see: recent Title IX updates or the growing trend of labeling parental involvement as “extremism”), the state has made one thing crystal clear:
They believe your children belong to ‘them’.
But here’s a little reminder from the King of Kings:
“Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him.” — Psalm 127:3
Notice it doesn’t say “a reward from the Department of Education.”
Quoting Israel Wayne: A Voice of Sanity
In Education: Does God Have an Opinion? author Israel Wayne makes the case plain:
“If God has given children to parents (and He has), then He has also given them the responsibility to educate them according to His Word.”
That’s not a negotiable verse for Christians. It’s a commission. And fulfilling it in the face of a system determined to indoctrinate your child into confusion, relativism, and rebellion is absolutely a political act.
If you’re a Christian parent, you can’t afford to be “neutral.” You are either teaching your children to love the Lord with all their heart, soul, and mind—or you’re outsourcing that task to the state... and they’ll gladly teach your child not to.
Sorry, Not Sorry
Homeschooling is political because we’re not just raising children—we’re raising citizens of a Kingdom. And the kingdom of this world is in direct conflict with the Kingdom of God.
So yes, we talk about politics. We stand up for parental rights. We demand educational freedom. We train our children to discern truth, not just pass tests. We raise them to value virtue over victimhood and conviction over convenience. And sometimes, we even post on Substack about it!
Because we’re not just raising homeschooled kids. We’re raising arrows, as Psalm 127 also says—meant to be shot into a dark world, carrying truth, clarity, and courage.
Final Thought
If you’re still trying to “not make waves,” I hate to break it to you: the boat already left the dock—and it’s full of drag queen story hours, critical race theory, and hormone blockers.
If you’re going to jump ship and swim upstream, good. Just know you’re doing something radical. Something biblical. Something... very, very political.
Welcome to the fight. Grab your Bible, your books, and a really strong cup of coffee. We’ve got work to do.
My Homeschool Arsenal: For parents who educate like eternity matters and who dare to say: ‘No, Caesar, they’re not your kids.’
